In a letter, the leaders of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) expressed their concerns regarding Donald Tusk, the president of the European People's Party (EPP), and the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Hungarian Left, Péter Márky-Zay, in Warsaw on Thursday.
In a letter sent to MTI on Friday, written by KDNP chairman Zsolt Semjén and György Hölvényi, the party's vice-chairman responsible for international affairs and a member of the European Parliament (EP), they drew attention to the fact that the Hungarian left-wing opposition to the member party of the European People's Party, the He is a political opponent of KDNP.
This opposition and its candidate continuously defame one of the oldest member parties of the EPP in Central and Eastern Europe, they pointed out.
It was emphasized: Donald Tusk was negotiating with a man who does not have his own party, but a candidate for a political platform . A member of this platform is Jobbik, which even a short time ago acted as an openly anti-Semitic, far-right party in Hungary, and the party's EP representative - who is still a member of the European Parliament - requested a list of Jewish representatives in the Hungarian Parliament a few years ago.
They complained that the president of the EPP, which brings together more than eighty member organizations and partner organizations, held the meeting without any prior consultation with the membership.
They added: Donald Tusk meets whoever he sees fit. However, the statements made by the president of the EPP at their joint press conference are completely contrary to the rules and traditions of the European People's Party
They emphasized: the KDNP has been a member of the EPP for decades, but this or similar cases have not yet occurred.
They expressed their hope that this will go down in the history of the European People's Party as an unprecedented event in the future.
