Hungary is interested in Ukraine becoming a safe, developing country - Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, wrote about this on his Facebook page on Friday.

"This year we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of Hungarian-Ukrainian diplomatic relations. Three decades ago, our country was among the first to recognize Ukraine's independence," said the Hungarian foreign minister.

He emphasized: even then, and since then - as a neighboring country - we are interested in Ukraine being a safe, developing country.

"Unfortunately, our relations have been very bad in recent years due to the violations against the Transcarpathian Hungarian community. We would like our cooperation to return to the ground of mutual respect as soon as possible," wrote Péter Szijjártó.

This was also confirmed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Friday when he had a short telephone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.
