With the development of universities, we can become one of the best in Europe, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday in Gödöllő.

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the Gödöllő City and Regional Swimming Pool, owned by the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Prime Minister emphasized: before 2010, Hungarian sport was on the verge of extinction, the conditions in terms of infrastructure, professional training and financing were such that there was concern, " one of the important pillars of our national pride", Hungarian sport is running out.

He reminded: HUF 2,100 billion have been spent on sports support since 2010, and the number of certified athletes has reached 560,000.

He explained: the newly handed over swimming pool not only increases the pride of Gödöllő, but also that of the entire country. It is important that if something new is built, it should be done at such a level that it can hold its own in any country in Europe, but also be unique, he opined.

He sees this swimming pool as a Hungarian building, "they didn't build a single cube", even looking at it from the outside, you can immediately see that it fits into what is called the Hungarian architectural tradition.

The head of government recalled: they had a big development plan for the swimming pools, it was developed by the swimming association and accepted by the government, but the epidemic cut their plans in half. The goal is for all schoolchildren to be able to swim, even the most talented ones competitively, he pointed out.

He said: 35 swimming pools have been built since 2010, 43 are under construction, and ten have been renovated, all at a total value of HUF 180 billion. All this is important because sport has a good effect on children, it is a good educational tool, he said.

Viktor Orbán also spoke about keeping previous promises, building other facilities, and that Gödöllő not only benefited from sports-related developments, but other investments were also made. "It's like this when a city is suppressed by the ruling parties," he added.

Regarding the change of the university model, he said: the agricultural university has always been the pride of Hungary, but we are entering a new world, everything has changed, which forces changes. HUF 2,700 billion will be spent on universities, and more than HUF 200 billion will go to the agricultural university, he said.
