In a joint statement, the Hungarian churches emphasize the importance of Jewish and Christian values regarding marriage and family.

In the Thursday announcement sent to MTI, they quoted from the first book of Moses: "God created man in his own image; In God's image he created him, male and female he created them. God blessed them and God said to them: "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth!".

Pope Francis also emphasized the biblical position during his visit to Budapest, confirming that the sanctity of marriage is between a man and a woman. In the Jewish tradition, they also wrote that "the sanctification of the male-female relationship through marriage is the basis of human dignity".

The signatories of the declaration - representatives of Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox churches, as well as Jewish religious communities - put it this way, "in preparation for Christmas and in the light of Hanukkah candles, as well as in response to the social debates that have been intensifying in recent times, we hereby reaffirm the importance of marriage, the family and human dignity the importance of relevant Jewish and Christian values".
