One of the keys to the success of the Visegrád states (V4) is that they have based their policies on common sense in the field of economy and security, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, stated in a video message sent to the joint economic committee meeting of the parliaments of the four countries on Friday.

The head of the ministry emphasized that Visegrad cooperation is today the "closest, most effective and most successful" alliance within the European Union. Together, its members were able to achieve extraordinary results in recent years that they would not have been able to achieve individually. He called the greatest achievement the joint efforts to prevent the introduction of mandatory migration quotas. "If it had not been possible to reject the crazy initiative of Brussels, there would be tens or hundreds of thousands of migrants in the territory of our countries today," he said.

It is an extremely strong, competitive region, which is also shown by the fact that if the V4 were to form one state, it would be the third most populous country in the EU and the 15th largest economy in the world, he pointed out. Péter Szijjártó stated: one of the main reasons for the success of the region is the sobriety in the field of economy and security. In this regard, he praised the advantages of low taxes not only in terms of attracting international investments, but also in terms of job creation. He underlined that tax policy must remain within national competence , this important element of sovereignty must be adhered to, and he added that Hungary will continue to reduce taxes even if some people do not like it. After that, he touched on energy security, in the field of which, according to him, the EU has made many mistakes. He cited as an example that the details of the European Green Agreement were not worked out with sufficient thoroughness from a professional point of view, it was partly treated as a political communication tool. reason should be preserved here as well on the continent". He added that more than 70 percent of our country's electricity needs will be covered by the nuclear reactors in Paks by the end of the decade , in addition, the government recently signed a new gas purchase contract with the Russian Gazprom, so the energy supply is ensured in the long term.

Finally, he touched on the issue of migration and stated that the member states must insist on their right to determine who can enter their territory and who cannot.
