With the participation of worldly and church dignitaries and local residents, the renovated residence of former Home Guard General Sándor Gál, one of the bravest leaders of Apó Bem, was inaugurated in Csíkszentgyörgy on Friday morning.

"Today is a big holiday for our village. The legendary general, the leader of the Hungarian revolution, the military commander of Székelyföld also created spiritual value through his personality. We can rightly be proud of him, who stood up for freedom at the last minute - said Zsófia Réti, mayor of Csíkszentgyörgy, in her celebratory speech. The leader of the settlement said that the general should stand as an example to the Székely community, to whom the imposing building of Székely folk architecture rightly commemorates.

Csaba Attila Borboly, chairman of the Hargita County Council, spoke in favor of the power of solidarity. "Traditional architecture is one of our values that we must not give up or replace. Let's continue to take into account the built heritage on the Fiság coast," he pointed out.

Ákos Lukács Bence, the senior consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Csíkszereda, spoke about Hungarian culture and built heritage in Transylvania. Countless magnificent churches, mansions, castles, manor houses or Székely farmhouses preserve the memory of everything. These buildings are also a measure of beauty. Thanks to the professional work, Sándor Gál's house can now shine in its old glory - he emphasized in his speech, underlining that it is always a significant event every time a historical treasure is re-enchanted.

The line of speakers was followed by the head of the design company, Barna Lőrincz, who said that the building will be alive if it is occupied and maintained by the locals. The ceremony was further enhanced by a poetry and song program by the students of the local Gál Sándor Primary School, and the church blessing was given to the building by Archdeacon Pál Vilmos-Barna Alcsík-Kászoni and local parish priest. What role the house will play in community life has not yet been decided, the village administration is considering several possible functions.
