The rules regarding documents expiring during a state of emergency are changing, from January the validity period of expiring official documents will not be linked to the end of the state of emergency, but a specific date, June 30, 2022, will be indicated.

A previous regulation did not specify a specific date, but defined the period of validity of the documents as 60 days from the end of the state of emergency, however, the government decree to this effect will expire in January, according to the government decree published in the Hungarian Gazette on Tuesday.

Even before Christmas, the Parliament decided on the extension of the state of emergency and several related regulatory issues. Regarding the latter, the law adopted by the parliament was published in the December 17 issue of the Magyar Közlöny, which, among other things, states that anyone who visited between March 11, 2020 and July 3, 2020 or between November 4, 2020 and May 31, 2022 or your official document expires, it will be valid until June 30, 2022.

The law adopted on December 17 separately mentions traffic licenses among official documents, but based on previous regulations, student ID cards can also be classified under this category.

The legislation also states: the extended period of validity is not an obstacle for someone to take measures to exchange their document before this.
