Justice Minister Judit Varga shared her thoughts on the French Presidency of the Council of Europe starting on January 1 in a Facebook post.

"From January 1 to June 30, France took over the presidency of the Council of the European Union from Slovenia. Emmanuel Macron visited Budapest at the beginning of December to discuss the continent's challenges with the Visegrad countries. The visit of the French president is proof that our country and the V4 have become an unavoidable factor in Europe. Clément Beaune, the state secretary responsible for EU affairs, in my office in mid-October to discuss the priorities of the consecutive presidency.

Effective cooperation with the Central European region will also be essential for the success of French objectives , strictly without ideology. We are facing a decisive period, the series of conferences on the future of Europe will also end during the French EU presidency.

It is important that our French colleagues, like the Slovenian presidency , do not give in to imperial aspirations, stealthy expansion of powers, insidious contract amendments and put a barrier to the ideological blackmail of the institutions and the rule of law witch hunt.

As one of the founding fathers, Konrad Adenauer, put it: " only by turning back to the values of the European civilization born of Christianity can the unity and peace of European life be achieved again." We wish the whole of Europe to recognize this idea during and after the French presidency.

Good luck!
