Bukás Karácsony's referendum initiative, since, contrary to their previous promise, it is hardly likely that they will collect the two hundred thousand valid signatures by mid-January, which is necessary to be able to hold the referendum at the same time as the parliamentary election. Among the reasons for the failure, it can be mentioned that the parties are hardly concerned with collecting signatures, only the Hungarian Kétfarkú Kutya Party takes it seriously. (If they take something seriously, it's a joke in itself!)
The referendum initiative launched by the rainbow coalition is not progressing well, after news broke this week that they managed to gather only 75,000 supporting signatures. As is well known, in response to the government's child protection referendum, the left also came up with the idea of a referendum, and then the National Election Commission allowed two out of five referendum questions submitted by Gergely Karácsony in August, the case of Fudan University and the extension of the job search allowance.
The left started collecting signatures in mid-December. Their original goal was to reach the 200,000 signatures needed to order the referendum by mid-January, so that the referendum would coincide with the parliamentary elections.
However, now it seems that this plan of the left will not succeed due to lack of interest, although Karácsony is still optimistic, as he stated in the ATV that the collection of signatures "has started", people have returned, they are "already standing in line" to have the two hundred thousand signatures. At the same time, when the collection of signatures began in December, the mayor also considered it possible to reach the number required for the referendum by the end of the year. A month ago, Péter Márki-Zay also stated that he thinks there is a chance to collect the two hundred thousand signatures in 2021. Meanwhile, the dogs complain that they didn't get enough signature sheets in the name of hyperpassivity.
However, when the referendum signature collection was launched, the left-wing prime ministerial candidate also had trouble recalling exactly what the people were being asked. He also needed the help of his own communications consultant and Ágnes Kunhalmi to be able to say how many days he would like to increase the time for the payment of the job search allowance.
It is also worth mentioning that in October, the left proudly announced that more than 600,000 people took part in the primary election they organized and which was surrounded by several scandals and technical difficulties.
In light of this, the current collection of signatures can be considered even more of a failure, and at the same time it raises questions in connection with the participation data of the rainbow coalition's home competition.
