An accident occurred due to penalty braking, which caused several kilometers of congestion on the M7 highway in Tárnok on Friday afternoon, Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt. informed MTI. Of course, this was not the first case of this kind, it also happened in the past few days on the introduction section of the M1-M7 due to a crash due to a penalty braking, and we could list such cases that have happened in recent weeks.
One could talk about the traffic morality in Hungary for a long time, why the car society has reached the point of violent speeding and mobile viewing while driving. It's hair-raising, as is the frequency of penalty stops. The only question is how to prevent this, because despite the use of the camera recordings, on the basis of which the police initiate proceedings, this is not a deterrent. A stricter assessment would be necessary. Let's say a criminal suspension, two years in prison, a 10-year driving ban and compensation for damages. Two or three people would have to be punished just like this and the penalty braking would cease immediately. Similar strictness could be applied against other aggressive, speeding driving styles.
Obviously, such strict measures would displease some. The human rights and human rights organizations would come to say that this is a dictatorship, that cannot happen in a democracy, but why should the speeches of the screaming minority be taken into account. Because a normal democratic society works according to the will of the majority and most people want to travel and live under normal conditions in all areas of life. In other words, the brakes should not be pressed when imposing penalties.
