The plenary session of the European Parliament elected a new president in the person of Roberta Metsola. Metsola is the third female leader at the head of the institution. Let's see who is the new President of the Parliament of the Union! - writes the Center for Fundamental Rights on its Facebook page.

Today, Roberta Metsola, the candidate of the European People's Party (EPP), was elected President of the European Parliament at the body's plenary session in Strasbourg. In its latest post, the Center for Fundamental Rights collected the most important information about the 43-year-old Maltese parliamentarian, who was elected with 458 votes in the first round of voting.

In its writing, the Center emphasized that

The Maltese representative of the European People's Party is a consistent supporter of the gender and LGBTQ lobby and illegal migration. Already in 2013, it proposed an EU action plan regarding gender issues. And recently, he also raised his voice against the Polish LGBTQ zones, demanding the withdrawal of EU funds from the affected regions.

The analysis also points out that

in the field of migration, Metsola has repeatedly proposed the distribution of illegal migrants between member states in recent years: he does not support strong external border protection, but uncontrolled immigration.

The representative is also active in rule of law issues. In 2018, the People's Party was the "shadow reporter" of the so-called Sargentini report, which requested the Council to initiate the procedure according to Article 7 with regard to Hungary. It is typical that, in connection with the report, the Maltese politician expressed his concern for political NGOs financed from abroad.

The politician's activities have not escaped scandals in recent years: a few years ago, he was accused of illegally spending thousands of euros from the European Parliament's reimbursement.

Overall, it can be said that Metsola is an ideal candidate for the presidency of the European Parliament with a left-liberal-green majority on behalf of the left-shifting European People's Party: in his new position, he is expected to continue his pro-migration, federalist policy that goes against the interests of the member states, which uncritically serves the interests of the LGBTQ lobby in Brussels - the Center for Fundamental Rights closes its post.

The 43-year-old Metsola is the youngest president in the history of the EU legislature.
