Within days, the fifth wave of the epidemic may peak in Hungary, the number of deaths will continue to rise for some time, at least until the middle of February, Miklós Rusvai said

However, according to him, this will not mean the end of the epidemic, but only its moderation.

" It will decrease, but I think that the coronavirus as a whole will retreat at the end of May in the same way as it did last year and the year before, so even if the number of cases is low, we will see relatively more than in the summer season," said the veterinary virologist , according to whom 150-160 deaths can be expected on the worst days. Even though infection records have been broken globally due to the omicron, the number of fatal diseases does not reach previous peaks.

In the meantime, immunologist András Falus stated: it is now completely clear that although the omicron spreads faster, it causes milder symptoms.

"The victims are the elderly, people with compromised immune systems and those suffering from chronic diseases, and due to the large number of infections, unfortunately, the number of deaths is also higher, but the proportion is lower, so the number is lower," said the immunologist. At the same time, according to him, it is still not possible to know whether the omicron will mean the end of the pandemic or not.
