Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó logged in live on his official Facebook page after an hour and a half meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy said that the current serious tensions in the East-Central European region are contrary to Hungary's national security interests, so work must be done to alleviate them. According to Szijjártó, Lavrov reported positive developments regarding the Ukrainian crisis, and in recent days a serious dialogue has started between the parties that are straining each other.

- We are also here to strengthen this dialogue between the Western allies and Russia - said the minister. He reminded: when there was a conflict between the West and the East throughout history, the Central and Eastern European countries were always the losers.

Regarding Hungarian-Russian bilateral relations, Szijjártó said: 2021 was the strongest year so far in the history of cooperation between the two countries. In order to continue this, an action plan was adopted for this year as well, which would make cooperation even closer in seven areas - including energy, the food industry, space research and healthcare.
