On Friday morning, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave an interview to Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! in his show.
Russian-Hungarian relations are in good hands, but due to the tense international situation, the meeting with Vladimir Putin was special - Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! in his show. According to the prime minister, the Hungarian model says that we are members of the EU and NATO, but regardless of this, it is possible to maintain good relations with Russia and if we look at economic relations, the attitude is similar in Germany and France.
The prime minister said that in such tense moments, Hungary can act as a kind of icebreaker. "We will continue to negotiate a lot and for a long time with the Russians, and Hungary has taken the first step in this," Viktor Orbán added.
We have authority
Regarding the five-hour hearing, the Prime Minister said that they managed to agree on eight of the nine proposals, and the ninth was put aside for later consultation. There is a lot of work to be done in order to have good relations with Russia, the Prime Minister declared. He said that in order to make proposals, Russia needs authority, and Hungary has authority. We have an independent policy, and Hungarian interests are present in world politics.
Viktor Orbán explained that the left-wing governments wanted to take him out of Hungary, but that is not the case today. Today, they come here to invest, build a factory and seek cooperation. In the last 12 years, we have gathered friends, said the Prime Minister.
Hungary is already a climate champion
According to the Prime Minister, the most important thing now is to eliminate Hungary's energy dependence. Hungary is already a climate champion, even if the leftists scoff at this, by 2030 we are aiming for the lead. In the meantime, the energy balance must be maintained, which requires Russian gas. We have our own natural gas, we also buy Qatari gas through Croatia, but less, that would not be enough, explained Viktor Orbán. According to the prime minister, our current energy supply system can only be maintained with Russian gas. According to Viktor Orbán's presentation, there will be gas in Hungary in the coming years even if anything happens in Ukraine, because the delivery route avoids the country.
Viktor Orbán said about the long-term gas contract that experts had not recommended it before. If we didn't have a long-term contract, there would now be significantly less gas at home, and thus the utility reduction could be protected.
The reduction in utilities is sustainable, contrary to the claims of the left, said the prime minister. You can still count on the overhead reduction, we can keep it up, because we have the economic base, which is Russian gas. If there is Russian gas, there is a reduction in utilities, Viktor Orbán declared.
Another vaccine can be produced in Debrecen
If the situation continues like this, then we will be able to manufacture Sputnik with the Russians, and we will be able to sell part of it abroad - explained Viktor Orbán. We are building a vaccine factory in Debrecen that is capable of producing the vaccines used in Hungary. The lesson of the epidemic is that this is important, emphasized the prime minister. He also announced that the EU is now looking at what kind of European production network can be built, and that Debrecen could be part of it. Viktor Orbán said that it is important for Hungarians to be able to choose from many vaccines. This is a unique thing, there are 5-6 vaccines to choose from in Hungary.
By the end of the year, the production of the Szputnyik vaccine can be realized at the vaccine factory in Debrecen.
Brussels wants a liberal empire
Viktor Orbán also said that as long as the member states tolerate it, Brussels will do everything possible to extend its rights. Brussels wants a liberal empire and they want to take away as many rights as possible from the member states. It has always been in the interest of us Hungarians that Europe should not build itself as an empire, because that would undermine national interests, the Prime Minister stated. According to him, a good example of this is the debate over the recovery fund, where Brussels wants to allow LGBTQ propaganda into schools. The head of government explained: they are trying to use judicial rulings in Brussels so that Hungarian parents cannot decide for themselves about the sexual education of their children, they want to take this right to themselves.
The Hungarian left openly says that a left-wing government would be a jackpot for Brussels, but we don't want a jackpot for Brussels, but for the Hungarians, said Viktor Orbán.
Hungary is moving forward, not backward
Viktor Orbán said that everyone can see that the national wealth is growing and the country is being built, so they can return the paid sja to families raising children. He declared: Hungary is going forward, not backward. He added that during the Gyurcsány-Bajnai governments, the most corrupt government in Hungary's history, we went backwards.
According to the Prime Minister, Hungary is a success story: the minimum wage will be raised, the 13th monthly pension of pensioners will be returned, and those under 25 will be tax-free. In his opinion, there are quite a few things to be proud of, and we are. Hungarians can take one step forward every year, even during the epidemic situation, said Viktor Orbán.
The Prime Minister stated that Hungary is a country that cannot be brushed aside, ignored, or crossed over, because it stands up for its interests.
