The Regőczi Foundation, which helps children orphaned due to the coronavirus epidemic, received a donation of ten thousand Canadian dollars (about HUF 2.5 million) from the Hungarians of Toronto.

On Wednesday, Anita Herczegh, the wife of the President of the Republic and the chairman of the board of trustees of the Regőczi Foundation, received the donation from Sándor Balla, the president of the Canadian Association of Hungarian Entrepreneurs, in the Sándor Palace in Budapest.

There is a great need for help and donations, as the foundation plans to support families in the long term, until the children become adults, Anita Herczegh said at the event.

He added: I want to distribute the subsidies fairly, so the three-member board of trustees assesses the financial situation and need of the families. Last year, families were given a larger amount of emergency aid as well as a Christmas present, and this year they are supporting those affected on a monthly basis.

Hundreds of millions of forints in donations have been collected so far, and the foundation is supported from here and beyond. The number of orphans has roughly doubled since the establishment of the foundation until now, so the task is now twice as big as they undertook - pointed out the president of the foundation's board of trustees.

Anita Herczegh said: some large companies have agreed to support the foundation with tens or hundreds of millions for 3-4 years, others transfer smaller amounts on a monthly basis. But they also offered material offerings, camping, cultural programs, and sports opportunities.

The support of this charitable goal was made possible by the organization of Hungarians in Toronto and larger organizations such as the Canadian Association of Hungarian Entrepreneurs and the Consulate General in Toronto, said Sándor Balla, president of the Canadian Association of Hungarian Entrepreneurs.

He emphasized: it is important that children orphaned due to the coronavirus epidemic feel the attention and care of society, and although they cannot personally hand over the support to them, the foundation provides help for this.
