On Friday, the Holy Father visited the Russian embassy near the Vatican for more than half an hour, as he is concerned about the situation in Ukraine, which has been under attack since February 24.

On Friday around noon, he personally visited the ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Holy See, Aleksandr Avdejev, at 10 Via della Conciliazione, which leads to St. Peter's Square. Fehér arrived in his private car and spent more than half an hour at the embassy - as informed by Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni.

Prayer and fasting on Ash Wednesday for peace

Pope Francis is closely following the development of the situation in Ukraine, where the attack on February 24 has already left many dead and wounded. A day earlier, at Wednesday's audience, the Pope expressed his pain at the escalation of tensions. Even before the violence erupted, he called on political leaders to do an examination of conscience before God, who is a God of peace and not of war.

He asked believers and non-believers alike to pray and fast for peace on Ash Wednesday, March 2.

"Jesus taught us to respond to the devilish senselessness of violence with the weapons of God, prayer and fasting. I call on everyone to fast for peace on Ash Wednesday, March 2. In particular, I encourage the faithful to devote themselves fervently to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace save the world from the madness of war!” - pleaded the Pope on Wednesday.
