The Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) considers it outrageous and deeply condemns the campaign of the opposition parties in the motherland in connection with the war in Ukraine, which put the Transcarpathian Hungarians in the crossfire, says the presidency of the association in a statement published on Tuesday.
"We consider it regrettable that some opposition parties, despite our request, are using the Transcarpathian Hungarians, who are already in a difficult situation, as a campaign topic, and they want to gather votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections by inciting contradictions between Hungarians in the motherland and Hungarians across the border," read the KMKSZ statement.
The presidency of the organization points out that the Transcarpathian Hungarians have always been part of the Hungarian nation, despite being separated for many decades, "and we welcomed the Hungarian government's national reunification program" . The KMKSZ believes that "in the current situation, the wisest thing is for public figures in Hungary to focus on providing assistance instead of criticizing Hungarian organizations and politicians across the border".
The KMKSZ repeatedly asks Hungarian parties and political actors to "not treat Transcarpathian Hungarians as a campaign topic, and in their expressions to take into account the difficult situation of the people living here", concludes the presidency's statement.
