In the person of Katalin Novák, a woman experienced in foreign policy and diplomacy is nominated as head of state by the governing parties, who also enjoyed great popularity as a minister. It is expected that in the future he will be able to work as head of state for all Hungarian families. He will not have an easy task, as he will also have to cope in a war environment as the commander-in-chief of the army.
Today, the Parliament can elect Katalin Novák as the President of the Republic of Hungary. If elected, the Fidesz-KDNP politician could become the first female head of state in Hungary. Like Katalin Novák, several women hold similarly high-ranking political and public law positions in Europe: in Scandinavia and the Baltic states, female politicians serve as prime ministers, and as heads of state in Greece, Moldova and Slovakia.
In several European countries, women hold the office of prime minister or head of state. This trend is particularly typical in the Nordic countries. In Denmark, Mette Frederiksen has been Prime Minister since 2019, she is already the second female Prime Minister at the head of the kingdom. Finland has been led for more than two years by Sanna Marin - who is also the president of the Finnish Social Democratic Party - the young politician became prime minister after a government crisis following a postal strike. In Sweden, neighboring Finland, Magdalena Andersson has been the prime minister since November 2021, the politician was also previously finance minister in the Scandinavian country.
Among the Baltic states, both Lithuania and Estonia have a female leader, and Iceland also has a female head of the cabinet. In addition, Katrín Jakobsdóttir has been at the head of the island nation for the fifth year.
In our region, Serbia has been led by Ana Brnabić as Prime Minister since 2017, and in Slovakia Zuzana Caputová is the President of the Republic. In Greece, Katerina Szakellaropoulou has held the title of the highest public dignitary since March 2020. In Moldova, Maia Sandu, who has a degree in economics, is the head of state, from December 2020, she was the country's prime minister for five months in 2019
If Katalin Novák is elected president of the republic, she will be the sixth head of state in Hungarian history after 1990. Árpád Göncz held the highest public office in Hungary between 1990-2000, Ferenc Mádl between 2000-2005, László Sólyom between 2005-2010, Pál Schmitt between 2010-2012, and János Áder between 2012-2022.
Many people also said goodbye to outgoing President János Áder on social media, even though his mandate does not expire until May 9, 2022.
One of the comments from Facebook:
