Support for the birth of desired children has become the basis of Hungarian family policy, the President of the Republic declared at the closing event of the Mária Kopp Memorial Year in Budapest on Friday. Katalin Novák pointed out: Mária Kopp perhaps pointed out for the first time that the state - and not only the state - has something to do where fewer children are born than young people dream of.

Decades ago, he realized that "our future depends on whether we stick with the family." He not only drew attention to the problems, but also helped to look for solutions and find the answers, said the head of state about the founder of the Three Kings, Three Kings Movement.

He recalled: it took very little time for them to get to know each other personally, since when Mária Kopp "passed away from us" ten years ago, she started working for Hungarian families. According to his words, he is very sad to this day because he was not given the opportunity and joy of a personal meeting.

We have been meeting Mária Kopp's legacy step by step for ten years and "I myself can be a part" of building her legacy, said Katalin Novák, and then mentioned the close cooperation with the Three Kings, Three Kings Movement as an example.

He continued: the founding of the Mária Kopp Institute for Population and Családokért (KINCS) in 2018, the year of families, greatly contributed to building the legacy of the psychologist and doctor.

He noted: Mária Kopp "may not be satisfied" with the results of the past ten years, but she would see and appreciate how the struggle is going on. Perhaps you would appreciate the fact that the desire to have children increased the most in Hungary, the desire to get married doubled, and the number of abortions halved, he added.

According to his wording, Mária Kopp might also be able to help with "how to proceed", because the last two or three years seem to make the decision about having children and starting a family more difficult - said the head of state, referring to the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic and the war in Ukraine.

Katalin Novák also emphasized that the demographic crisis can only be combated by an alliance of men and women, and then highlighted the importance of a positive outlook on life. As he said, it is not enough to drift, but to be at the forefront of matters.

As an example, he mentioned that Mária Kopp did not care about the Hungarian demographic situation. The same is true for issues related to values, he added, pointing out: "we have to stand up for the values that we believe in eternity."

At the end of his words, the President of the Republic said: "today we are not mourning that Mária Kopp is no longer here with us, she could not live this period after the age of 80, but we are happy that we Hungarians once had a Mária Kopp".
