Before the war in Ukraine, on March 12, 2022, 3,730 people, including 1,247 children, arrived in Budapest by train. Most of them asked for information, traveled on individually, or went to visit relatives. The accommodation and transportation of 135 people, including 80 children, to accommodation in the capital and rural areas was solved by the cooperating authorities.
The forces of the Budapest Police Headquarters and the Emergency Police are helping refugees arriving by train from Ukraine at the Keleti and Nyugati railway stations. In order to provide, transport and accommodate them, the police are in constant contact with the Directorate General of Disaster Prevention, the Directorate General of National Immigration Police, the Hungarian State Railways Ltd., the Budapest Transport Center, the Police Directorate of the Metropolitan Municipality, as well as the staff of aid organizations.
