The government must prevent Hungary from drifting into the war in Ukraine at all costs, regardless of the pressure it is under from outside or inside, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated on Wednesday after the meeting of the National Security Task Force and then the government. According to the ministry's statement, the head of the ministry reported that the intensity of acts of war is not decreasing, clashes are ongoing in the neighboring country, and although diplomatic efforts are getting stronger, peace negotiations are ongoing, but their results are not yet visible. He pointed out: the number of refugees from Ukraine is increasing, but our country is ready to take care of them, to provide them with accommodation and work opportunities.
"Of course, all kinds of disputes are taking place in the diplomatic space, but we stand firmly by our position, according to which it is our task, our duty, to guarantee the safety of the Hungarian people and not to allow Hungary to be provoked into this war," he said.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the decision is valid and irrevocable, according to which the government does not send weapons or soldiers to the war, and does not allow the transfer of lethal weapons through the country. "No matter how much pressure is put on us from outside or inside, from the Hungarian left-wing opposition or any foreign actors, we will still stand by this decision in the future," he said.
