The Bartók Spring International Art Week awaits the audience with exciting programs for 17 days from April 1 in Budapest, and from April 21 in Miskolc, Győr, Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged.

"Béla Bartók's figure, creativity, and spirit provide inexhaustible inspiration even today. »Only from a pure source« is one of his most important ideas, which also means a lot to the people of the 21st century. What do we draw from? What defines us? How do we renew ourselves, how will what we create be fresh and valid? Searching for the pure source, interpreting and processing our heritage, adapting our present to it: a mission that is becoming more and more important!" - says Csaba Káel, CEO of Müpa, which organizes the festival, on Béla Bartók's 141st birthday, emphasizing that the all-arts festival named after our world-famous composer is waiting for visitors with colorful programs in several major cities of the country in addition to Budapest this year.

"As part of the Bartók Spring International Art Weeks, we undertake to show the impressive talent of the most outstanding artists of our time in countless genres, from classical music to jazz, visual arts, world and light music, and dance."

There will be no shortage of novelties, surprises, premieres and groundbreaking collaborations at Bartók Spring. Within the framework of the festival, the Hungarian premiere of Péter Eötvös' 13th opera will take place: the work Sleepless, based on the first part of Jon Fosse's Trilogy by the world-famous Norwegian writer, will be performed in a concert-like performance conducted by the author at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. Kossuth Prize-winning choreographer Pál Frenák and his troupe are preparing for their premiere with the title Secret Off_Man, Bartók Tavaszon presents its new performance Recirquel, which created the genre of cirque danse, led by director-choreographer Bence Vági, but the joint dance theater production of the Boban Marković Orkestar and the Székesfehérvár Ballet Theater is also unforgettable promises moments. The dance show of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, suitable for the Easter holiday and providing an experience for all ages, is based on the ancient, peasant folk customs and songs of the distant regions of the Carpathian Basin.

Pianist David Fray will take the stage with the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra, István Várdai and Kristóf Baráti, Dénes Várjon and Concerto Budapest will delight the audience with two concerts and an exceptional Bartók program, pianist Dániel Villányi will play the masterpieces of Bach, Bartók and Prokofiev at the festival. One of the brightest stars of the New York Metropolitan Opera, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, who was chosen as the singer of the year in 2019, dazzles the audience of the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall with Handel arias accompanied by the Orfeo Orchestra led by György Vashegyi.
