Those fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war are asking us for exactly what we can give: security, well-organized care, peace. We Hungarians are on the side of peace, we want to stay out of the war. And we do not help the refugees to gain the recognition of Ukrainian or international politics and media, but because our heart dictates it - President-elect Katalin Novák emphasized in an interview with Magyar Nemzet.

He emphasized: what has been built up to now – largely with the help of the mother country – the Hungarian kindergartens, schools, churches, homes, a significant part of them may become empty due to the war. The cry reached us, not only in Bereg, Szatmár or Szabolcs, but also in Budapest and the farthest corners of the country.

A kind word, a loving approach, material and financial assistance are now necessary for survival, and it sends the message: you can count on us.

The refugees feel that the heart of Hungary now beats on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. They ask us for exactly what we can give: security, well-organized care, peace. From Záhony to Fehérgyarma, from Fényeslitke to Tarpa, I met people who needed help and wanted to help everywhere. And I visited Beregszasz in order to express that those who stay there are just as important as those who are forced to come.

What the Ukrainian leadership expects from us is more than solidarity and superhuman assistance.

They want their fight to be our fight. We Hungarians are on the side of peace, we want to stay out of the war. And we help refugees not to gain recognition from Ukrainian or international politics and media, but because our heart dictates it.

Together with us, all member states of NATO and the European Union unanimously and firmly rejected the Russian aggression. The question is what follows from this. There are few countries that can completely give up energy and food from Russia. We Hungarians, no matter how much we strive to develop our self-sufficiency, we are not there yet.

I believe in the tools of classical diplomacy and negotiations. As long as we can talk to each other, there is a chance for an agreement. I trust that the peace talks will lead to results sooner or later. Interest and value - both have their place, both must be represented. Standing up for values while ignoring our own legitimate interests is irresponsible, and representing interests independent of values is immoral. Just peace and security - that must remain our goal.

Regarding the child protection referendum held together with the parliamentary elections, he explained: The referendum is about children, but also for adults: parents, grandparents, everyone who cares about the safety of the generation that comes after us. That is why I encourage everyone to use the opportunity to take a stand and participate in the referendum.

This Sunday, the four "no's" are the strongest possible "yes" for the long-term mental and spiritual security of our children.

The fight is better than many people think. People instinctively desire freedom of thought and spirit. If they realize that they are being restricted in this, they will rebel against it. What for a long time seemed like "kindness" and tolerance, has now turned out to be an attempt at a dictatorship of opinion, which does not tolerate those who think differently and want to live differently. Those who consider themselves tolerant cannot tolerate opinions that differ from theirs.

As President of the Republic, I will also strive to give space to differing viewpoints both within and outside the borders of the country, firmly standing up for our own values, which are clearly and unambiguously stated in our constitution.

I trust that the active presidency will appeal to people of good will. There are many areas of our lives that go beyond politics, where I will have the opportunity to get to know and represent the thoughts, feelings, joys and concerns of Hungarians even better. In the short term, I owe an account to them, and from now on to God.

The elected president believes that the election is decisive. "I encourage everyone to take part in the parliamentary elections, and after careful consideration, taking into account the real performance of public figures, considering the possible candidates, and keeping the interests of our nation in mind, pull the trigger."
