At its meeting on Friday, the National Electoral Commission made a protocol decision that it would turn to the authorities regarding the left-wing text messages.

István Hollik, Fidesz's communications director , said in a statement sent to MTI on Tuesday: they received several reports on Tuesday about text messages being sent from an unknown phone number urging support for the left. Such messages were also received by people who had never provided their data to the left-wing parties, including several members of the government, he added.

He highlighted: in the past few days, a lot of information has come to light about the secret and illegal data fishing activities that Gordon Bajnai and his American-trained secret minister conducted through the company DatAdat. According to the politician, there are suspicions of illegal use of personal data and illegal campaign financing in connection with mass messaging.

A member of the National Election Committee (NVB) elected by the Parliament called the issue of left-wing text messages the most egregious violation of the law in terms of both the mass and the gravity of the violation in the campaign.

At Friday's meeting of the NVB, Tamás Szalay asked the board to contact the competent bodies in an official procedure: the investigative authority in order to conduct criminal proceedings, as well as the National Data Protection and Freedom of Information Authority. At the meeting, the members of the NVB supported the filing of a complaint regarding the text messages with ten votes in favor and one against.

The National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) informed MTI on Friday that it had initiated proceedings regarding the SMS campaign sent in recent days.

In his Friday morning radio interview, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called the way the opposition handles citizens' data in the campaign a huge electoral fraud.

He said: hundreds of thousands of people get their data illegally and then send political messages without the people's consent. He has been watching elections for 30 years, but he has never seen such fraud.

Stikliks happen, but it's different when they illegally obtain the data of hundreds of thousands of people and then send political messages without the people's consent. This is not only an election fraud, but also raises the issue of freedom, he said.

He said "lawyers will have plenty of work after the election"; "this is an orbital election fraud, a very serious violation of the law, which must be investigated to the last detail".

Who has the information about me, who collected it, who collected it, who gave it to me, who gave permission for it, where was it taken, taken abroad, sent back from there? - he listed the questions that arose.
