On Sunday, a long message appeared on the Facebook pages of several Romanian politicians in both Hungarian and Romanian, urging Hungarian voters to vote against Viktor Orbán, Magyar Narancs wrote .
Dacian Cioloş , who was the prime minister of Romania between 2015 and 2017, wrote in his post that Hungarians today have to choose "between a party that isolates Hungary from Europe and a unified opposition. Viktor Orbán, who is openly pro-Putin, and among those who distance themselves from the crimes committed by the Russians against the Ukrainians."
In the post, Orbán called Orbán's government "an autocratic system that hides its thefts and incompetence with the slogan of 'sovereignty'", according to which it is opposed to the West, an alliance united in support of European values.
"In recent years, I have repeatedly criticized Viktor Orbán, not because I have a personal grudge against him, but because I have repeatedly seen that
the decisions of the Budapest government distance my Hungarian friends and neighbors from the European Union and from all neighboring states where Hungarians live"
he said. He added:
"Choose a future that you can also be proud of, so that we can be together in a prosperous and democratic European Union."
Cătălin Drulă, a politician from the USR party, also posted in Romanian and Hungarian. He wrote: “There have been warning signs before, but now it has been proven beyond all doubt.
Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary, is a Putinist.”
According to him, Orbán has been running an "autocratic regime" since 2010, and "he has crushed the Hungarian press and civil society, and he keeps the opposition that crosses his personal ambitions in check with a strong hand, with the help of state institutions."
He explains that, in his opinion, Orbán is now working to "undercut Europe's united action against Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's brutal aggression in Ukraine.
What's more, he built his election campaign on the obvious lie that it is up to him alone to ensure that Hungary does not drift into war. Although in reality this scenario did not even arise."
In his message, he also reminds us that Orbán does not even shy away from using the personal database of the COVID epidemic as a political marketing tool to send campaign messages. According to Drulă, this is electoral fraud and disrespect for the rule of law.
In his post, he addresses the Transylvanian Hungarians and asks them to think about what kind of future they want for their motherland.
"Do you consider Europe desirable, or the isolation associated with Putinism? A liberal alternative that would trigger Viktor Orbán's autocracy could put Hungary back where it belongs: in the mainstream of Europe. The RMDSZ is well aware of this, but for the time being, the fear of closing the money taps is stronger than honesty and fairness towards their community," he says.
