The six-party opposition alliance actually had no ideological or principled basis, just one person. It was an alliance against Viktor Orbán, which clearly failed on Sunday, Tibor Navracsics, a representative of Fidesz, told Vasarnap.hu.
- The parliamentary election took place on Sunday. Did they expect such a large-scale victory?
- Personally, I did not expect, nor did I calculate, a two-thirds victory . And I really didn't think it was likely that we could achieve better than the 2018 result nationally. In my own constituency, I expected an extremely close result, and in comparison, a rather large difference emerged.
"What could be the reason for this?"
– This is a difficult question that will be debated by political analysts for a very long time. Two days after the elections, I see that the opposition has not managed to find a political leader comparable to Viktor Orbán
I am also sure that in today's war-like and uncertain situation, Fidesz was able to communicate its position to the voters much more clearly, clearly and reassuringly. Perhaps the fact that the six-party, united opposition was sometimes not in harmony with each other also played a role in this, which did not instill confidence in the people. Later, many other events will make clear everything that led to their electoral defeat.
- The opposition was preparing for a change of government, it won almost everywhere in Budapest, but there were hardly any people waiting for the results, in the Városliget. Was it only hatred against Viktor Orbán that connected these parties and their voters?
"Looks like it is." This six-party opposition coalition actually had no ideological or principled basis, only a personal one: it was an alliance against Viktor Orbán. It became apparent that this negative goal could not motivate the voters as they had planned. The opposition achieved a much worse result in 2022 than four years earlier. This may also include the fact that not all of the voters approved of this unprincipled collapse.
