Fidesz prevailed in the countryside because it was much better than the opposition, László Mérő wrote on his social network. According to the mathematician and psychologist, Péter Márki-Zay fought with honor. It failed, however, because the left-liberal parties united in the Unity for Hungary left it alone and betrayed it.

On his Facebook page, László Mérő explained the reasons for the opposition's defeat with two things. The first is that he " left the MZP alone on the issue of the war in Ukraine, let it fight alone. A war situation always favors the reigning government, and MZP's betrayal discouraged almost everyone who does not viscerally hate Fidesz. What can they expect from these parties in government if they are already behaving like this with their leader elected by hundreds of thousands of people in the primary election? ” asked the mathematician.

According to László Mérő, "MZP fought with honor until the last minute, even when he looked back and saw that there was no one behind him, the others were not coming with him".

He added: " There is only one small example of the behavior of the other parties after the election: all but two people from the opposition waiting for the results left MZP." From now on, none of the parties whose leaders have fulfilled this will stand before me. So in my eyes, apart from MZP, only Anna Donáth (and therefore Momentum) and Gergely Karácsony (the eternal non-party) have any honor left, they did not hang themselves cowardly. The others are trash for me. DK – trash, Jobbik – trash, MSzP – trash, as they are. LMP, Párbeszéd, Együtt - ah, there's nothing to throw away on them. A couple of idle stage-men for good money in the Parliament, that's all that's left of them, " wrote László Mérő.

The mathematician and psychologist also testified about the mistake of the other on his Facebook page.

He said that he participated in the voting as a vote-counting commissioner of the left-liberal parties in response to the call of the party association for Unity in Hungary. He was delegated to a small village in Zemplén, and thus had a way to get to know the way of thinking of the people living there.

According to László Mérő, he was delegated by the opposition

"20,000 people were told the story with which our Pest brains were washed, that in the countryside there is darkness, ignorance, brainwashing and fraud. Fidesz was really successful in the countryside, but not because of this, but because it was much better than the opposition. And for the same reason, even in Budapest, he managed to make the match much closer than was expected a few weeks before the election".

He added: he didn't love Fidesz, but he loved and understood a lot of the rural world that voted for Fidesz with a large majority.
