On Friday afternoon, Canon Róbert Kiss blessed the freshly handed over, renovated Stations of the Cross in the area of the hospital in Komárom. The bas-reliefs in the institution's Szűz Mária Park in Lourdes, which had been neglected for decades, were renovated with the support of the Harsányi Foundation with the cooperation of the city and a local business. Currently, this is the oldest Way of the Cross in Komárom, after the Baroque Way of the Cross known from the descriptions has already been destroyed.
Nine of the reliefs depicting the 14 stations of Jesus' resurrection survived in the hospital's park, the remaining five stations had to be recreated by András Cétértárgi, who carried out the restoration work, Mayor Béla Keszegh said at the ceremonial handover. The creator of the recently renovated way of the cross is unknown, it was built sometime between the two world wars. Several of the reliefs embedded in the wall of the fence were made in the area, which is why it was possible to recreate the five missing stations, modeled on the Calvary in Süttő, he explained.
Emphasizing the role of supporters, he said, the Harsányi Foundation covered the costs of the restoration work. The renovation of the wall holding the bas-reliefs was carried out by Tonex Kft., while the green area and the maintenance of the area were undertaken by the city. The director of the hospital in Komárom, Miroslav Jaška, expressed his special thanks for the fact that, thanks to the cooperation, the crossroads and the park could be renewed.
The handover ended with the blessing of the calvary, which was performed by Canon Róbert Kiss, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Nagyszombat, with the assistance of Father Štefan Gago.
