From the samples taken from the Székesfehérvár ossuary, two people from Árpád House were identified by the researchers of the Hungarian Research Institute, who also determined the origin of the Hunyadi family from the bones of János Corvin and his family, announced the Minister of Human Resources in Budapest on Wednesday.

Miklós Kásler recalled that archaeogenetic research started in two directions in Hungary. Population genetics research began in Szeged, and the National Oncology Institute started research on the genetic stock of the Árpád dynasty, identifying III. King Béla's male line of descent.

These two research directions were united by the Hungarian Research Institute, supplemented by the results of other disciplines, so scientifically based results, free of preconceptions, were achieved even in a short time, he added.

Gábor Horváth-Lugossy, the director general of the Hungarian Research Institute, said that their scientific publications on the identification of the Árpád family members resting in the Székesfehérvár ossuary, as well as the genetic material of the Hunyadi family, are currently being reviewed and are expected to be published in the coming months.

As he pointed out, the research of the ossuary was preceded by the fact that, on the initiative of Miklós Kásler, the National Oncology Institute III. He determined the genetic stock of the Árpáds from Béla's bones; thus it became possible to examine the remains resting in Székesfehérvár, the relic of St. László, and the bones of András I in Tihany.
