The newspaper recently published an opinion article in which the author called Hungary a "dysfunctional European state". Rod Dreher and the former chief economist of the World Bank reacted to this.
Rod Dreher István Dobozi, currently living in America , former chief economist of the World Bank, responded to the criticism was also published by the American newspaper.
Dobozi pointed out that Hungary cannot be called "dysfunctional" because since 2010 it has had the fastest growing economy in Europe.
On the other hand, no government can win four parliamentary elections in a row if it is fundamentally "dysfunctional" . According to him, the political success of Viktor Orbán is explained by the fact that he is the only truly charismatic leader in a fragmented "political market" . Thus, where his critics "embarrassing failure" for him, the majority of Hungarian voters see success.
And Dreher emphasized that the effective national-conservative leadership style of the Hungarian Prime Minister set an example for the American right.
He added: Viktor Orbán understood that all cultural institutions and the bureaucracy are controlled by the left. And conservatives who refuse to take up the gauntlet and form an effective opposition will lose. Future conservative leaders can therefore already take an example from Hungary.
