According to UN estimates, 8.3 million Ukrainians will have to flee to neighboring countries this year, due to mass migration caused by the Russian invasion, reports Portfolio. The UN also announced that due to the large number of refugees, approximately 1.85 billion dollars will be needed to support host countries such as Hungary and Poland.
According to Shabia Mantoo, the spokesperson of the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), the number of people who have fled Ukraine since the beginning of the war can be put at 5 million, and there are also 7.7 million people who have been forced to leave their places of residence within the country.
That is why UNHCR is launching its updated Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) and is asking for $1.85 billion to support states that are geographically close to Ukraine and are involved in hosting people fleeing the war. These countries include Hungary, the Republic of Moldova, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, as well as several other states in the region.
