Vera Jourová, the member of the European Commission responsible for transparency and values, wrote in her message published on Twitter: the Brussels body will send a notification letter to Hungary on Wednesday, in which it will officially activate the conditions for the protection of the EU budget.
" We have identified problems that may violate the rule of law in Hungary and may affect the budget of the European Union, " said the EU Commissioner.
Viktor Orbán: We will not give in to any pressure
"Hungary will certainly not deliver weapons to Ukraine. He is not giving in to any pressure on gas and oil sanctions against Russia. And this is also true for the gender issue," Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at his international press conference held at the beginning of April, where journalists asked him about the rule of law procedure initiated against Hungary.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said: the procedure is about the money received from the reconstruction fund, if someone spends it irregularly, the money can be taken back, but, as he put it, Hungary did not receive even a penny.
"Even if we wanted to, we wouldn't have been able to spend it irregularly, let alone spend it regularly. There was no way we could have spent it, so I don't quite understand what the basis of the procedure is."
- announced the Prime Minister.
The Hungarian position is clear on three issues
The prime minister said: it is difficult to reply to a letter in the dark, but three things can be definitely recorded regarding the Hungarian position.
"Whatever is in that letter, it is certain that Hungary will not deliver weapons to Ukraine. We will not give in to any pressure. It is also certain that we will not give in to any pressure that wants to extend the sanctions against Russia to gas and oil, because this will kill the Hungarian economy. And it is also certain that no matter how much pressure there is, we will not give in on the gender issue," emphasized Viktor Orbán.
Viktor Orbán also spoke about the fact that the Hungarian government is a supporter of sober dialogue.
He added: he believes that the biggest problem between Hungary and European institutions is the gender issue.
The issue of sanctions has also contributed to this. The prime minister stated: for us, the issue of oil and gas is also a red line.
