Péter Hoppál, who was re-elected as a member of parliament for Pécs and its surroundings on April 3rd, told the Magyar Nemzet that he did not mind that the power cut of the left-wing campaign projector in Pécs became national news. The paper also asked the Fidesz politician what he was able to thank for his confident victory in such a difficult district. According to the father-in-law, the left used mafia methods to attack his family during the campaign, but all such attempts backfired on them.

– The new parliament was established on Monday, and the left immediately staged a dramatic exit from the meeting hall. What was it like watching it live?

- The cynicism that the left produces again and again under the leadership of Ferenc Gyurcsány is outrageous and unacceptable. I was elected to the Hungarian legislature for the fifth time, and every time I felt it was a great honor to be able to serve my country and represent the interests of the citizens of Pécs and its surroundings.

On the left, on the other hand, it seems that, apart from raising the representatives' salaries, only the circus is important, they don't want to work even after their historic fall. This was also proven by their behavior at the founding meeting, which, although they did not cause a great surprise, was saddening to watch.

- They say he is also working as a football referee these days. At least Attila Péterffy, the mayor of Pécs, got rich with a red card at the first town hall assembly after the parliamentary elections.

- The judge was actually not me, but the people of Pécs, who clearly indicated to the leftist mayor during the election that the policy he has been representing for two and a half years is a dead end. I only conveyed the judgment of the townspeople by showing Attila Péterffy a red card after my speech before the agenda.

– How exactly did the people of Pécs indicate this?

It is quite clear, on April 3rd, more people from Pécs voted against the left-wing politics represented by Attila Péterffy than elected him as mayor. I was able to significantly increase my voters, even though the entire left got together and ran a single candidate against me. By the way, we see that the collapse of the rainbow coalition was so discredited that even people who were left-wing voters voted for me.

Tamás Mellár was also only able to narrowly win the other Pécs district against the Fidesz-KDNP candidate, János Kővári, even though he won it much more smoothly four years ago.

– What made many people turn away from the city leaders in Pécs?

"It's very difficult to list everything." Briefly summarized: Attila Péterffy promised civil city management, but instead it is clear that he is secondary to what is happening with Pécs, and prefers to follow in the footsteps of the mayor of Budapest and use his position for party political purposes. All this in order to meet Ferenc Gyurcsány's expectations.

- How is Péterffy similar to Gergely Karácsony?

- He also chants that the government is punishing the city because it has left-wing leadership. He never mentions the fact that Pécs received 100% compensation for the lost business tax due to my intervention. Anyway, that's why Attila Péterffy and I lobbied the government together, even if he doesn't like to advertise this in public, but I never saw Tamás Mellár anywhere. While we're at it, I can't mention one thing that Tamás Mellár tried to arrange for the benefit of the city. I never saw him in any of the negotiations I conducted with the government where he could have lobbied for Pécs.
