On a momentum proposal, the Deputy Mayor of DK was replaced, the politician who failed in the parliamentary election - also a Gyurcsány party - was recalled from the supervisory board of a local government company, and the Jobbik faction ceased to exist.

Until a month and a half ago, the opposition parties in Szolnok were characterized by the greatest possible agreement, but today they have completely disintegrated. On the morning of March 18 - that is, even before the parliamentary election - the six signed an agreement that they will run together in the municipal elections in October 2024, hoping to win a majority again, as in 2019, when they won 10 of the 18 mandates. although Ferenc Szalay from Fidesz remained the mayor. But the first rift between them happened that very day, as a few hours later the Jobbik presidency recalled the party's constituency chairman, who also signed the document, from all his positions with immediate effect.

He doesn't think he was disqualified, but he quit anyway

György Galló told Mandiner at the time that he was overwhelmed by the news, since he had already joined the pro-people, democratic Jobbik, which supported the unification of the opposition, and he believed that this should continue in the local government election as well. And he was confident that he would be able to convince the ethics committee that his move was in line with the current direction of the party.

But the story turned out differently. György Galló has now told Mandiner that he does not think it likely that they would have followed through on their threat and expelled him, as the Jobbik faction in the local government would have ceased to exist then. But in the end, the latter happened, because the politician voluntarily left the party and also the representative group due to his constant banter, so

only one right-wing representative remained in the assembly, who by definition cannot form a faction.

Galló stated that he still does not understand why he was attacked in Jobbik, since as a constituency president he had the right to sign the opposition parties' intention for further cooperation, but at the same time he admits that he did not discuss this at the national level. And it would have been very strange and incomprehensible if his signature had been missing from the agreement when the other opposition parties signed it. He claims that he will remain independent in the opposition benches and will vote in the general assembly based on whether or not the proposed proposal serves the interests of the city and its residents.

However, the weakening of Jobbik in Szolnok is not only shown by the faction's demise. The president of the local youth section has also left, and several "field" members have recently dropped out. According to Galló, while there used to be dozens of people in the local group, now it's good if there are ten, and their public activity is close to zero. For example, the latest post on their Facebook page is from April 12, and they didn't even hold a May Day, which is a tradition that goes back many years.

At the same time, in addition to Jobbik's loss of ground, the heads of the opposition politicians may be burning for other reasons. Earlier, a civilian and a DK representative left the originally ten-member Szolnok Majority opposition party alliance and became independent, and the latter, Károly Fajcsák, later resigned from his mandate, so by-elections will be held. And at the last general assembly, the momentous Éva Szekeres (newly known as Bóka) also announced that she was leaving the opposition alliance.

In any case, Szekeres cannot expect much good from his former partners, since at this general meeting he suggested that Deputy Mayor László Miskolczi of DK be recalled from his position, as he believes that the head responsible for city operations is not doing his job well. József Ligeti, currently independent (formerly also in the opposition), also agreed with this statement, so the replacement of Miskolczi was finally supported by the eight-member Fidesz-KDNP faction as well as György Galló, Éva Szekeres (Bóka) and József Ligeti, while members of the opposition alliance did not vote.

And the showdown continued. The opposition initiated the recall of the joint candidate, Pál Sziráki from DK, who ran in the parliamentary elections but failed - he was more than seven percentage points behind Mária Kállai from Fidesz - from the supervisory board of Szolnok Városflejőz Zrt. (he was the chairman of the board).

After his departure from the faction, ex-Jobbik Galló suggested that the chairman of his former party in Szolnok, Zoltán Szotyori-Lázár, be removed from the supervisory board of the local television station. Both proposals were accepted by the general assembly, so Sziráki and Szotyori-Lázár lost their positions.

After that, it is no coincidence that the Fidesz mayor Ferenc Szalay stated at the last assembly that the party alliance called the Szolnok Majority has ceased to exist, and that the opposition was actually blown away by the wind.
