According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the election result confirms the correctness of the economic policy pursued so far, which is why they want to continue. The minister, who was re-nominated for the position, spoke about this at the meeting of the Parliament's economic committee on Wednesday in Budapest.

Péter Szijjártó promised to continue the current economic policy.

At his hearing as a candidate for minister, Péter Szijjártó emphasized that their goal is to protect the results achieved so far, the achievements of Hungarian people and businesses, for which economic growth of 7.1 percent last year and 8.2 percent in the first quarter of this year is a good basis.

In the next period, the revolution in the automotive industry, the provision of supply chains, the global food supply crisis and the provision of energy supply are the biggest challenges, he added.

The politician reminded that today the automobile industry has become a dominant sector within the manufacturing industry in Hungary, so it is particularly important that, in addition to the production of conventionally driven cars, the production of electric vehicles is also established in Hungary.

In doing so, they intend to increase electric car battery production capacities to 150 gigawatt hours by 2025, compared to the current 50 gigawatt hours.

The minister called it necessary to shorten supply chains. He further emphasized:

due to the global food supply crisis, the value of Hungary's ability to produce double the domestic food consumption is increasing, so they intend to intensively support agricultural and food industry developments in the future.

He called it necessary to accelerate the development of the Paks power plant due to the energy crisis.

He further believed that the Hungarian economy emerged from the economic crisis caused by the pandemic stronger. The basis of successful crisis management was that the primary task was not the financing of unemployment, but its prevention.

At the same time, the lowest corporate tax in Europe, the development of the infrastructure, and the political stability are still significant attractions for foreign investors, he listed.

In the wake of everything, 2021 was the most successful year of the Hungarian economy. In addition to economic growth of 7.1 percent, export performance increased to 119 billion euros, which is the 35th highest value in the world.

At the hearing, the Ukrainian nationality advocate Liliána Grexa thanked for the support provided to Ukraine. In response, Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary is carrying out the largest humanitarian aid in its history to Ukraine and has already admitted 700,000 refugees from Ukraine, providing work and education to those who wish to stay in Hungary permanently.

The committee found Péter Szijjártó suitable for the position of minister with 10 votes in favor and 3 against.
