László Kövér, the President of the Parliament, received the President of the Austrian Federal Council (Bundesrat) Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, who came to Budapest for an official visit at the Parliament's invitation, on Friday.

The discussion discussed the traditionally good relationship between the two parliaments, the close cooperation of the specialized committees and friendly sections, the outstanding economic relations between Austria and Hungary, joint efforts to curb illegal migration, the demographic situation, the energy crisis and the challenges determining the future of the European Union.

László Kövér and Christine Schwarz-Fuchs reviewed the humanitarian measures provided to the refugees of the Ukrainian-Russian war, the situation of the Transcarpathian Hungarians and the danger of a new wave of migration due to the grain shortage threatening Africa.

The President of the Parliament was quoted in the announcement, who stated that Hungary views Austria as an important political and economic partner, and as an ally in many European affairs.

We value honest, regular dialogue, which also enables the clarification of sensitive issues. It is in this spirit that we strive to strengthen cooperation on a bilateral, regional and European level, said László Kövér.
