"The fifth Orbán government is defined by the war. The Hungarian Armed Forces must be prepared for all eventualities, I emphasize for all. Historical experience shows that we must be prepared." Vasarnap.hu spoke with political scientist Tamás Fricz, spokesperson of the Civil Solidarity Forum.
– How do you see the fifth Orbán government as a government in crisis?
"Maximum, but this is also very necessary." We can see everything overwritten by the Russian-Ukrainian war. It follows from the emergency situation of war that, in this state of emergency, the economic, political and national defense policies of the entire country and their possibilities must be reconsidered. It hurts, but in such a situation, education and culture cannot be given the same priority as at other times.
– To what extent will the newly established government be able to cope with the ever increasing number of unexpected problems?
– The previous Orbán governments gained enormous experience in crisis management. If you think about it more, the previous three administrations essentially always had to deal with some kind of serious crisis. In 2010, it was left to the second Orbán government to overcome the consequences of the huge global financial crisis in Hungary. Indebtedness represented a huge difficulty, which was finally overcome with the much-talked-about unorthodox economic policy. In 2015, the migrant crisis began, and in 2020, the pandemic began. The Hungarian government came out of these challenges quite tolerably.
However, it would be naive to think that these trials would end. Migration and new epidemics can reappear at any time.
– The Russian-Ukrainian war began at the end of February.
- Exactly. It is a regrettable fact that the war itself is what defines the fifth Orbán government . of Viktor Orbán will therefore do what has been characteristic of it up until now: it will try to represent the interests of the Hungarian people in the midst of crises and in constant headwinds. The government has significant experience, yet this crisis is different in many ways from the previous ones: it is much more complicated and complex. It can be seen that the government has to solve a series of crises piled on top of each other.
