The elementary school in Orotva, which was renovated thanks to the tender of the Gyergyóditro municipality, was named after the mountaineer Zsolt Erőss, where more than a hundred children can start the new school year in September. The school was inaugurated yesterday.

The elementary school in Orotava was built in 1957, and its upper floor was completed ten years later, but since then, apart from the current comprehensive restoration, no major renovations have been carried out in the institution. In the fall, the children can move back into the building, which will also have modern equipment. During the handover and naming ceremony of the school on Tuesday afternoon, for the past two years, teachers and children have watched a dream come true from the garden of the church on the opposite hillside.

Elemér Puskás, the mayor of Gyergyóditró, said that they won 4.5 million lei in the tender for the renovation of the elementary school and the boarding house in Ditró. Many times clouds towered over our heads, but I'm glad that we dared to dream big. The bids expired in two years, and it turned out that much more money was needed, since the works cost 6.5 million lei. We are grateful to Sándor Bende, Member of Parliament, and Barti Tihamér, Vice-Chairman of the Hargita County Council, with whose intervention we were able to obtain additional government funds so that the investment could be completed.

A naming ceremony is always a special event, as it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the life of an institution - pointed out Demeter Levente Hargita County Chief Inspector, then added: "When naming a school, the school bears witness to what values it commits itself to in the long term, who is a significant personality, whose work and outlook on life are considered a compass. When I hear the name of Zsolt Erőss, I think of the man who lived among us as a simple person, while reaching mysterious heights and testifying to extraordinary achievements".
