Reformed kindergartens are being built, expanded and renovated in almost seventy settlements across the country, said the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations on Friday in Dombóvár.

Miklós Soltész said at the handover of the new building of Margaréta Református Kindergarten: more than 3,200 new places will be created in the Reformed kindergartens.

"Our task is to preserve and pass on Christianity, to preach peace. If we can implement all this in our church kindergartens and schools, Hungary will become an island of peace and remain in Christianity as we received it a thousand years ago," he said.

He said: in the world we live in, the number one treasure is our children. "When we see the colors of the rainbow in the sky, we think of children as little girls and boys, and their parents as mother and father. In the rainbow we see the covenant with God and nothing else," he added.

János Árpád Potápi, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for national policy, the region's Fidesz member of parliament spoke, among other things, about how churches are important pillars of community building, which is why they support the creation of as many church institutions as possible.

Historical churches, especially the Reformed Church, play a prominent role in the construction, renovation and acceptance of kindergartens throughout the Carpathian Basin. The government helps the historic churches get it back, or ask the educational institutions, "because it's important for us that faith appears in education and training," he said.

Sándor Veres, the chief caretaker of the Danube Reformed Church District, explained: the new kindergarten building with a net floor area of 335 square meters was completed as part of the Hungarian Reformed Church's national kindergarten program with an investment of HUF 310 million. Two group rooms, a serving kitchen, and social rooms were created in the building, which were equipped with a heat pump, underfloor heating, and energy-saving electrical equipment.

Ágnes Schott, head of the institution, told MTI that the kindergarten spent HUF 25 million from its own budget to renovate the institution, which doubled its floor area. Starting in September, 125 children will be educated in five groups in the reformed kindergarten, which has been operating since 2003.
