"This dependence must be eliminated," the Ukrainian president said in a video message on Thursday evening, according to the Ukrinform news agency

"Russia has again increased the price of gas in Europe, and this also proves that the continent must learn to live without Russian gas. I think it's no coincidence that the gas situation has worsened again in Europe and that the price has increased again. Russia is doing this on purpose and restricting shipments to attack the Europeans”

he said, adding:

"Europe must transition to life without Russian gas, this dependence must be eliminated."

Gazprom announced on Tuesday that it will reduce gas transport by 40 percent on the Nord Stream-1 pipeline, which is the main transport pipeline for Russian gas for Germany. Since then, Gazprom has continued to tighten its belt, which means that instead of the previously planned 167 million cubic meters of gas per day, only 67 million cubic meters of gas will now arrive in Germany.
