Between June 17 and 19, riders from Székelyföld will saddle up and compete for the right to start at the Budapest National Raceway. There will once again be a Góbé race, where younger riders will have the opportunity, as well as numerous horse shows and concerts that will entertain the public. The event pays tribute to the memory of the locally born János Czetz, who was the youngest general of the 1848 War of Independence. The Budapest National Vágta also offers him this year's International race.
The largest equestrian event in Székelyföld, the Székely Vágta, takes place at the weekend. Those who follow the event can certainly expect an exciting program, because this year - after the closed-door competitions of the past period - the event is finally three days long, which will be held again according to the usual schedule in Sepsiszentgyörgy, Maksa-Óriáspincetetö.
This year, representatives of 19 settlements entered the competition: 9 riders in the Góbé race, while 10 in the adult field are fighting for a place in the National Race in Budapest - there will be returning competitors and newcomers among them. Among the competitors will be, for example, Csaba Tamás, who achieved 3rd place on the podium in last year's final, and was thus the most successful Székely rider in the history of the National Vágta.
The 11th Székely Vágta was the youngest general of the 1848 War of Independence,
It pays tribute to the memory of János Czetz, on the 200th anniversary of the hero's birth. Born in Gidófalv, Czetz was only 26 years old when he attained the rank of general, József Bem himself highly valued his military skills. He died in Buenos Aires, where a statue was erected to him and a square was named after him.
The event also offers visitors several large-scale cultural productions: the National Equestrian Theater in Székely Vágta presents it on Saturday evening
the folk rock opera Szent László, the Knight King, whose public rehearsal will take place on Friday.
In addition, the 4 for Dance dance show and Szilvia Péter-Szabó's acoustic concert will entertain the audience during the three days. There will also be a hussar skills competition, a presentation by the Kassai Horse Archery School and the Transylvanian Horse Stunts, a craft fair and many other interesting programs.
On Sunday, the Góbé race can be expected from 5:00 p.m., followed by the Székely Vágta final from 5:30 p.m., where it will be revealed who can represent Székelyföld in October in Budapest, on Hősök square.
