73 percent of Hungarian voters agree that it is only possible to buy fuel at a discounted price for cars with Hungarian license plates, according to a poll by the Nézőpont Institute.

You were reminded: in Hungary, gasoline can be purchased for cars with Hungarian license plates at a discounted price of HUF 480, compared to foreign fuel prices of HUF 800-1,000 per liter. They added: Brussels wants to cancel the measure guaranteeing this, citing EU rules, but the Hungarian government wants to keep the provision protecting Hungarians.

The Nézőpont Institute assessed the social perception of the extraordinary crisis management measures, what the voters think about the double gasoline price.

They said:

the research reveals that almost three-quarters of Hungarian voters - 73 percent - support the fact that only cars with Hungarian license plates can be bought with discounted fuel, and only one fifth of them - 21 percent - disagree.

Supporters of the measure are in the overwhelming majority of government party voters (87 percent) compared to those who rather reject it (10 percent). Left-wing voters also have a majority (53 percent) of those who agree with the government measure, 39 percent of them disagree with it, they wrote.

According to the survey, there is no significant difference between the opinions of voters in the capital and rural areas regarding the favorable assessment of the dual gasoline price: while 70 percent of Budapest residents support it and 24 percent oppose it, 73 percent of those living outside Budapest agree and 21 percent disagree with the measure.

"Support for the discounted gasoline price for cars with Hungarian license plates is strong in all social groups, which means a strong authorization for the government in the debate with Brussels," the institute summarized the results of the research.

The Nézőpont Institute's public opinion poll was conducted between June 7 and 9 by interviewing a thousand people by telephone. For all researches, the sample is representative of the population over the age of 18 according to gender, age, region, type of settlement and educational level. In the case of a sample size of 1,000 participants and a 95 percent confidence level, the sampling error is 3.16 percent, the announcement reads.
