Two groups of migrants attacked each other with firearms early on Saturday in the Szátka forest near the Hungarian border. According to local reports, there are at least six injured and one dead.
According to information from the staff of Pannon RTV in Szatka, all of the injuries were caused by firearms.
At three o'clock in the morning, the police in Szatka received a report that gunshots could be heard from the forest near the Serbian-Hungarian border. The special units of the police marched to the scene in large forces, and approached the scene in bulletproof vests. The forest and the roads leading to it were closed. According to Pannon RTV, the migrants also opened fire on the police.
According to unconfirmed reports, two groups of migrants - one consisting of Afghans and one Pakistani - attacked each other, reported the local correspondent of the current channel M1. The correspondent said that six migrants are being treated at the hospital in Sabtka with injuries caused by firearms, of which a 16-year-old girl is in the most serious condition. By the way, there are also migrants with families in the forest in Szatka, he added.
There are currently around six thousand illegal immigrants in Serbia. The destination of migrants from Africa and the Middle East is not the Western Balkan countries, but the European Union, mainly Germany, but many are stuck in Serbia for a long time due to the Hungarian border closure.
According to reports, the pressure on the Serbian-Hungarian border section has recently increased, and there have also been examples of migrants throwing things at the border guards, so it cannot be ruled out that the weapons used now were originally intended to be used not against each other, but against the border guards.
Máté Kocsis, the faction leader of Fidesz, reacted to what happened on his Facebook page and said: the situation on the southern border is getting worse . The ruling party politician added: this year alone, more than 100,000 people tried to enter Hungary illegally, using selected methods, sometimes using tunnels, sometimes using ladders, sometimes with stones, sometimes with guns.
The leader of the Fidesz faction added: the soldiers and the police are doing the work, but because of the war, their work would be greatly needed at the Ukrainian border as well. It's time to set up an independent border hunting body that deals exclusively with border protection! We cannot let go of Hungary's security! Máté Kocsis underlined at the end of his post.
