The Hungarian women's water polo team won the silver medal at the domestically organized World Aquatics Championship, after losing in a huge battle, 9-7, to the United States team, the fourth winner in the series and the first in the last three Olympics, in Saturday's final on Margaret Island.
Despite the fact that the Hungarian team won the silver medal in a close fight, it was a huge success, because the Americans were the favorites of the meeting.
It was not by chance that Attila Bíró remarked: This finale was a true celebration of women's water polo.
“I have to say thanks to the girls, they played fantastic and gave practically everything they could in the last two weeks. I think that if we were a little bit luckier in some situations, or if we chose a smarter solution, the final could have turned out differently in the end," said the national team captain at the press conference following the medal ceremony.
Judge Attila Bíró noted that since 2020, the band has been on the podium at every world competition, they don't want to drop below that, the development is unbroken, but even if they win, they have to learn.
The specialist emphasized: this finale was a true celebration of women's water polo. This was joined by Adam Krikorian, who manages the Americans, who added that he envies the Hungarian national team that they can play in front of six thousand people. Reacting to this, judge Attila said that he would accept the gold medals.
The President of the Republic Katalin Novák supported the Hungarian team on the spot, who placed the silver medal around the girls' necks at the award ceremony.
Last night Katalin Novák made the following post on her Facebook page:
Our women's water polo team is a world championship silver medalist. Thank you for the persistent fight, the high-quality game and the fact that it's good to be Hungarian tonight. Congratulations, Girls!
