Hungary has enough water, but it doesn't matter how we deal with the water resources - Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovics pointed out on Saturday evening in Győr, at the ceremony called Water, what we wanted.

The head of the ministry highlighted the Insula Magna program and the structure of the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) in his presentation: The water supply problems in Szentendré and Solymár are caused by a technological problem, not that there is not enough water.

The minister said about the Insula Magna program launched in 2021: it is our responsibility to ensure that there is water again in Szigetköz and Csallóköz. The vision of the program is for the Szigetköz ecosystem to be as it was in the early 1800s, only with different functionality.

The program also tries to show the possibilities of how water can be used sustainably in sports, tourism, innovation, or research.

László Palkovics emphasized that the delta of Szigetköz and Csallóköz is a "miracle" in the world, and its potential must be used in a meaningful way. The program is supported by the European Union and the government, he said. He added that the cooperation with the Slovak side is also excellent, the political support "absolutely exists".

At the ceremony, on behalf of TIM, László Palkovics signed a cooperation agreement with Széchenyi István University and the Széchenyi István University Foundation, which operates the higher education institution.

Regarding the document, László Palkovics said that TIM makes agreements with all serious technological industrial companies and organizations that "sort out the conditions" for the next four years, and among them, model-changing universities play a major role. He added that such an agreement will be signed with representatives of local industry in the future.

Sándor Széles, the government commissioner of Győr-Moson-Sopron county, emphasized that the water level of the Mosoni-Danube represents a decisive development for the county seat, but at the same time there are still challenges for Hungary.

As he said, with three or four artificial objects, the bed of the Old Danube could be the largest freshwater reservoir in the country.
