According to public opinion polls, if the elections were held now, the Fidesz-KDNP party alliance would be able to form a four-fifths majority in the Parliament, because with the record support on the opposition side, none of the opposition parties, with the exception of the DK and the Mi Hazánk Mozgalom, would be able to get in on their own. to the parliament - said analyst Ervin Nagy.
Due to the scandals in Jobbik, the historical low point of the former national radical party is also understandable, but it is less surprising that Momentum has also fallen below five percent - Ervin Nagy, the XXI. Század Institute analyst, who believes that the results of the by-elections further worsened the opinion of the opposition, especially the failure in Budapest is demoralizing. The total collapse would require an explanation, but there is complete bewilderment on the left, and there is still no formation of a political alternative.
The political scientist believes that the government's popularity is unbroken, that the fight against wartime inflation, the maintenance of utility cuts, and the further increase of family allowances and pensions are serious political successes.
He considers Viktor Orbán's announcement of the establishment of a new body dealing with border protection to be particularly important, which is necessary because, while more than a hundred thousand people have already tried to enter Hungary illegally on the southern border this year, the soldiers and the police are standing in the way, but they would be greatly needed by the local in law enforcement, as well as at the Ukrainian border. The decision has strong social support and can increase the credibility of the government's immigration policy.
"For the first time since the elections, the opposition representatives could ask the Prime Minister in the parliament, but András Fekete-Győr inexplicably brought up their anti-Olympic campaign from five years ago, which suggests that they have nothing current to say. In addition, the leader of the faction talked about the 2030 Olympics, while there will be no such sports event in that year, which again only points to lack of preparation," said Ervin Nagy, and then added: the problem has become a meme, which further worsens the perception of Momentum among young people.
Additional actions can be observed in the case of the other parties as well. Although DK is the largest and most popular party on the left, and Ferenc Gyurcsány is likely to experiment with salamizing the others and integrating the left, but the credibility problem remains unchanged.
Only Péter Ungár's demands regarding social workers appear to be elaborate political statements, but this is not nearly enough to get the virtually non-existent LMP out of the hole. The Mi Hazánk Movement seems to be continuing its constructive opposition work in the parliament, supporting the government in the fight against illegal migration, and at the same time trying to overtake Fidesz-KDNP from the right.
In the capital, the Karácsony-Tüttő couple announced that they are willing to implement the Brussels directives, i.e. they are trying to deal with the problems caused by the war with population restrictions, and to make the people of Budapest pay for the runaway energy prices.
Péter Jakab and his entourage were defeated during the reform of Jobbik, so - since he continues to lead the faction - the internal struggles will not end, the analyst believes. If Jakab was the "fist of the party", then Gyöngyösi was the "chameleon of Jobbik", because he slavishly followed the changing federal policy without dissent. In the EP, together with Kataliné Cseh, he is fighting for the committee to withhold the funds due to Hungary for political reasons. It is expected that Jakab will not give up, and the party will embark on the path of "economization", concluded Ervin Nagy.
