After the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Györgyóditro, the Chain Bridge and the Parliament in Budapest, Imre Mezei has now created a model of the Basilica of St. Stephen, it can be read on the Székelyhon portal. He made his first models out of wood more than twenty years ago, inheriting his interest and talent for models from his father.

With his work, he brings a little bit of the world to Gyergyóditro, where they marvel at the model of the Ditro church, the Chain Bridge in Budapest, the Parliament and soon the Saint Stephen's Basilica in Budapest, as the private construction entrepreneur from Ditro who lives his hobby is now engaged in the creation of the latter.

"In 2016, I made the church in Ditro, then the others one by one, and in the fall of 2021 I started to make the latest model, a scaled-down copy of the Basilica of St. István. In total, I worked on it for approximately four months, only the final finishing touches are left," said model maker Imre Mezei. He added that he first looks at the dimensions of the original building, then reduces it proportionally, draws the base, and then works based on pictures. The weight of the St. Stephen's Basilica statue is approx. five hundred kilograms, it is welded together from twenty kilograms of electrodes, using more than five hundred cutting discs.

Locals and tourists in the summer season visit his yard and marvel at the completed works. It does not ask for admission, anyone can donate as much as they think they can in the box installed on the inner wall of the fence. Making models is expensive, which is mainly covered by your own income. "I take on smaller jobs and try to cover the costs from that. I'm not doing this just to entertain myself, I'm doing something that pleases God, I think. My next project, which I really want, would be the Szabadság bridge at the end of the garden, with the deep Danube," said the model maker from Györgyóditro.
