The guitar king's four legendary concerts from the Kádár era will be reconstructed in the biographical film to be shown in October.

The musical biographical film entitled A RADICS - A mékatsköt ermer , is already being edited and is expected to be presented in October We talked with director Gábor Klacsán about the fate and secrets of the guitar king, old and modern sound, and the tribute of his descendants.

– Several documents are available online about the history of Béla Radics, about the beginnings of Hungarian beat-rock-rhythm'n'blues. Will there finally be a feature film?

– It will be a very special film, we hope. A musical biopic with a different mix of documentary and feature film elements than usual, and other film genres will also be present. We didn't want to set genre boundaries in this film.

– This attitude also fits the memory of Captain RB. What is the movie about?

– Based on the basic script of László Zöldi Szentesi, based on the research of Csaba Bálint (Rockmúzeum), the script follows his life and musical career from his childhood to his death. We see him in a pioneering talent competition, which he won, we follow him as he learns about the Anglo-Saxon music Shadows, Cream, later Jimi Hendrix, these musics he played with precision in the early days before writing his own tracks. We present the studio work and four concerts - in which he played with four different bands, Atlantis, Chess-Mat, Taurus and Tűzkerek - are reproduced in the film.

"It's a brave undertaking." The expectations of viewers and fans are huge, but there is hardly any old footage, and they are not very good either.

- Essentially, we used the music of that time for our times. We try to present the old sounds in accordance with today's technical conditions, according to today's needs, that is, the music must sound in a way that it can be understood by people living in today's music world, and what's more: it must be permanent. I would like these recordings to evoke the same feeling in viewers as Béla Radics' original guitar playing did at the time.

"Who will play the guitar in the film?"

– István Alapi. Many people may not even realize how excellent guitarists we had and still have. I searched for music from the time of socialism, I also listened to Yugoslav and Polish bands, but I don't think I was able to track down the Hungarian musicians and music world of that time. Ours have been writing world hits for forty or fifty years, only in Hungarian, for us. But we got the best from them. I think this is still the case today, thanks in no small part to Radics.

– Returning to the concert recordings, how did you manage to create that particular sound?

– This is also the merit of István Alapi. István's incredible musical intelligence and exceptional abilities made this possible.

– Who play the main roles?

– The little boy Radics is played by András Stépán-Kovács, the adult Radics will be Zoltán Rák, his father is Zsolt Trill, and his mother is Kati Zsurzs. Lajos Som is personified by Attila Király, Szabolcs Bede-Fazekas takes on the role of Comrade Fenyvesi. But many Hungarian musicians also appear in the film, often barely recognizable: Gábor Vilmányi, István Vörös, Joe Rudán, Attila Mátyás, Róbert Hrutka, Vivien Tiszai and many others.
