Soak up a bit of retro Balaton in the Várkert Bazaar! (VIDEO)

Balaton RETROspektiv, a new photo exhibition of Várkert Bazar, which can be viewed for free until mid-September, has opened. The retro era of the second half of the 20th century was a real golden age in the history of Balaton. The nation enclosed within the borders of Trianon loved and used the lakeshore as a sea from the twenties. It was at this time that the portrait of Lake Balaton that lives within us was born, which is still a determining factor in our thinking and summer plans.

But what exactly does this portrait show? To what extent is it social, how personal, and to what extent can we talk about it objectively? The exhibition seeks answers to these questions by presenting the object culture and locations of the Balaton of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

The emblematic developments, products and inventions appearing here have defined the reality and atmosphere of Balaton summers for decades, they have become unavoidable characters in our memories, and that is why we are waiting for another adventure, in which we will explain both their cultic and strictly material significance. In this joint, retrospective undertaking, everyone can certainly find their own summer stories, and on the piers of the Hungarian sea, which honestly preserves its image, generations and eras can discover themselves, and then each other.
