For weeks, the left attacked the government because, according to tradition, the Budapest fireworks display will be held this year on the August 20 national holiday. According to their communication campaign, the event consumes too much cost, so it should be cancelled.
Olga Kálmán, the parliamentary representative of the Democratic Coalition, even complained about the holding of the fireworks in her speech before the agenda a few weeks ago.
However, Zoltán Kovács, the State Secretary responsible for international communication and relations, said on Monday, at the press conference presenting the details of the events on August 20, that the costs of neither the fireworks nor the entire series of events have changed compared to last year, and that at the moment it would be more expensive not to hold the fireworks .
